About Hand Gestures

The objective of this self-funded project is to use hand gestures to directly manipulate 2D and 3D objects through an advanced computer user interface.

The movements of the user's hands are tracked by 2 webcams and these movements are analyzed and interpreted in real time to produce commands for graphic applications.

At this stage of the project, we have defined a basic "language" for simple quantitative commands (translation, rotation, scalling, cleaving). The visual tracking problem is currently simplified by having the user wear colored gloves. We reconstruct the relative 3D movements of the hands through computer vision techniques (motion + stereoscopy).

Future development includes the use of this system to drive our Visual Data Mining system.
